4-1-13  Bullard Southern Baptist is currently looking for a part-time Interim Music Director as well as a Permanent Part-Time Music Director. 

“Interim” Part -Time Music Director 

Position Description 

The purpose of the position of Interim Music Director is to facilitate an atmosphere in which God is worshipped and to provide direction, oversight, and coordination of the musical elements of our worship services. It is a part-time, 20 hours per week, support staff position with duties primarily on Sundays and Wednesdays. 

The Interim Music Director will be responsible for leading the congregational music, directing the choir, rehearsing with volunteer musicians, piano/organists, and sound system technicians. Experience with a blend of traditional and contemporary music is preferred. 

Primary Duties 

1. Lead music for Sunday morning, Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night services. 

2. Plan music for special services, such as Christmas, Easter, etc. 

3. Provide music to volunteer musicians with ample time to prepare and learn the pieces. 

4. Coordinate any planned choir event with the activities of the related church ministries well in advance of the event. 

5. Adhere to applicable copyright laws with regard to the use, duplication, distribution, and broadcast of music and/or lyrics. 

6. Keep work areas neatly maintained and organized ensuring that rooms and church facilities are presentable and neat at all times. 

Qualifications and Requirements 

1. Individual must be a believer in Jesus Christ. 

2. Possess the ability to read music, lead and direct choir and musicians. 

3. Prior church music leadership experience is required (volunteer or paid). 

4. Possess the interpersonal skills needed to relate to a diverse group of people such as pastoral staff, musicians, children, youth, seniors, church leaders, and    members. 

5. Passing a criminal background check is required. 

6. Individual must have strong organizational and effective communication skills. 

7. Individual is responsible to and accountable to the pastor.

  5. Coordinate the maintenance and repair of all musical instruments owned by the church.
  6. To develop, submit and maintain an annual music ministry budget to the Budget & Finance Committee.
  7. Encourage participants of all ages in the music activities of the church.
  8. Adhere to applicable copyright laws with regard to the use, duplication, distribution, and broadcast of music and/or lyrics.
  9. Keep work areas neatly maintained and organized ensuring that rooms and church facilities are presentable and neat at all times.
  10. Participate in the activities of the church.

Qualifications and Requirements

  1. Individual must be a believer in Jesus Christ and must become an active member of Bullard Southern Baptist Church.
  2. Possess the ability to read music, lead and direct choir and musicians.  
  3. Possess the interpersonal skills needed to relate to a diverse group of people such as pastoral staff, musicians, children, youth, seniors, church leaders, and members.
  4. Prior church music leadership experience is required (volunteer or paid).
  5. Passing a criminal background check is required.
  6. Individual must have strong organizational and effective communication skills.
  7. Individual is responsible to and accountable to the pastor and the BSBC Personnel Committee.
  8. A high school diploma is required, and some formal training in musical instruments or voice would be a plus.
  9. Individual that is able to thrive in a team environment and is able to envision and energize the church and community through music.
  10. Individual displays excellent judgment and respect of others. 

Vacation Time

  1. At the completion of the first six (6) months of service, the Music Director is eligible for one (1) week of paid vacation, to include one (1) Wednesday and one (1) Sunday.
  2. After a complete year of service, the Music Director is eligible for two (2) full weeks of paid vacation.
  3. The Music Director  is allowed to be away for one (1) Sunday and one (1) Wednesday each year for the purpose of revivals or other music related engagements.
  4. The Music Director is allowed to attend one (1) annual music conference to be funded by the Church budget.
